What Is A Precision Level?
Leveling tasks are handled by many types of engineers, from those hired to perform calibration services as well as surveyors and construction engineers. Without quality precision levels, equipment would fail and construction projects, such as house building, bridge building and even producing items such as cars, trucks and airplanes would be impossible or at least, it would be impossible to safely construct these items.
When we talk about the term “precision levels,” this can refer to just about any type of level, from digital protractors and electronic levels to levels that incorporate a spirit vial or a pendulum. This can be as simple as your basic toolbox level with a spirit vial that costs just a few dollars at the local hardware store or a highly precise instrument that is meant to handle crucial calibration and measurement tasks.
At Warren Knight, most of our levels are meant for industrial tasks and engineers, and our selection of precision levels includes the following.

Precision Box Levels/Frame Spirit Levels
These sturdy precision frame spirit levels are used for adjusting and checking horizontal and vertical surfaces and shafts, and we have three different size options. Our WK-34-6114 model measures 4”x1-3/8”x4”. The WK-34-6166 model measures 6”x1-3/8”x6, and our largest model, the WK-34-6117 measures 7-7/8”x1-9/16”x7-7/8”.
Abney Levels
An Abney level includes a sighting tube with an eyepiece, a movable spirit level and a protractor scale. This type of precision level is commonly used by surveyors and foresters to measure topographic elevation and percent of grade. Abney levels have been used by surveyors and astronomers since the late 19th century.

Abney levels, though not as accurate as theodolites, are much easier to carry out into the field. Our WK-40-1750 Abney level is built for use in rugged environments and weighs just 10 ounces, making it an ideal field instrument.
Other Precision Levels & Level Meters
There are many different types of level meters. Some measure sound levels, while others help ensure that equipment is level or perhaps used to ensure level surfaces during the construction of buildings and homes. Our level meters are primarily used with various types of equipment and precision instruments, such as for calibration tasks.
The WK-34-2300 Level Meter 2000, for instance, is an easy-to-use level meter that features a large digital display and can be configured for all common inclination measurements.

Our Mini Level NT Series is a helpful tool that can be used to measure small angles, the flatness of surface plates and geometrical errors. This device features a large LED digital display, precise push-button zero-point adjustment and rugged precision aluminum housing for protection against external influences. We have three model variations of the NT series, one with a 4-inch base and two with a 6-inch base, depending on your needs.
Clinometers & The Clinotronic Plus

Clinometers (also known as inclinometers) can be used to measure angles of slope or elevation, and we have an assortment of clinometers available on our website. Our Clinotronic Plus is a handy inclination measuring instrument with built-in calibration and offers a range of plus/minus 45°and a capacity of 0-360° using all four bases. It weighs just 13 ounces and uses standard AA batteries, so it’s easy to tote anywhere you need it.

The Clinotronic 2000 is another option, and this precision instrument allows any leveling units to be measured. The embedded program includes common leveling and calibration functions such as reversal point measurement. The rugged device, which weighs less than 7 pounds, is housed in stainless steel and offers an operating temperature range of 0° to 40° C (32° to 104° F) and a storage temperature range of -20° to 70°C (-4° to 158°F).
Additionally, we offer a wide range of non-electric clinometers, which can be used to determine inclination or slope, and these include sensitive level vials combined with precision graduated scales and verniers. Our selection of clinometers includes an optical clinometer, a pendulum clinometer, drum clinometers, a vernier clinometer and scale ball clinometers.
Protractors
Protractors act as helpful precision levels for many tasks, and we have two types of digital protractors. Our WK-35-4445 Electronic Protractor includes an electronic clinometer, digital display and a four-foot cable (we do offer cable lengths up to 200 feet, as well). If you prefer a model without a cable, our WK-35-4490 Digital Protractor uses a 9-volt battery and can be used for leveling tasks as well as measuring angle or tilt. We also offer a propeller protractor that measures angles directly between any two planes or any number of planes, such as setting a detachable blade type propeller on an airplane.
